[Day 6]: What’s something you’ve always wanted to do but haven’t? Why not?

I don’t really regret anything in my life. I believe that whatever has happened in my life did so because it was meant to. I know that all of the experiences in my life made me appreciate what I have today and whatever comes my way in the future. I do have dreams of getting married and having children *one day* and I have not done so yet because…well…1) I am still finishing up grad school and most importantly 2) nobody has asked me to marry them lol. Besides that, what I have always wanted to do was to TRAVEL, and when I mean TRAVEL I mean taking 1…2…6… months and backpacking around Europe, then hoping on a plane and exploring Asia…then Africa…and who knows…just exploring.

A picture of Natal, RN – Brasil, where my last TRUE vacation was.

The reasons I have not done that are 1) I haven’t been able to afford that financially. Not only I would have to spend money at those places, but I would have to have enough money to cover the expenses that I already have: housing, credit cards, bills… and 2) I haven’t been able to afford taking that time off. I have not taken a good break…GOSH! In a good while….

My last REAL vacation…and I mean REAL because during that time I was physically, emotionally, and financially relaxed was in the 1990’s. That was when my mom (who paid for the whole thing), a friend, and I went to Natal, RN – Brazil. I was about 12 years old or so. Ever since that vacation, all the other trips were volleyball related (where the focus was on volleyball, not exploring the place), or happened when was really tight on money (so I pretty much felt guilty about spending the money traveling), or where I never really relaxed (because I felt guilty that my grad school work was being left behind).

Do I think I will ever be able to take the time off from…well…LIFE…and travel like I have always wanted? The answer is simple: NO *unfortunately.* But I am still hopeful that once I am done with my doctorate, when I have a steady job (and before I have kids) that I will travel to some parts of the world that I have always wanted to see. For now, I just collect those places on a dedicated pinterest board
